All recordings were made in Santa Barbara, Honduras (SB) using a Yaesu FRG-7 receiver except for one that was recorded in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Prior to the 1979 revolution, the family of the Somoza dictatorship had owned a chain of radio stations around the country. The Sandinistas took these over and gave them names evoking the revolution. My recordings below include Radio 19 de Julio, Radio Insurrecion, Radio Frente Sur ("Southern Front"), Radio 13 de Octubre, Radio Venceremos ("We Shall Win"), Radio Liberacion, and La Voz del Poder Popular ("Voice of the People's Power"). July 19 refers to the July 19 1979 victory of the revolution. October 13 commemorates the day in 1977 when Sandinista forces defeated Somoza's army and took over the town of San Carlos (where the station was located). Although they were driven out soon afterwards, this was one of the Sandinista's first significant victories.
