DXing in Medellin
Read about my DXing & download some SDR-IQ files to hear what the MW and some SW bands sound like in the Medellin area.
The Metrocable
Medellin is located in a long narrow valley. One of the metro train lines runs the entire length of the valley and a second shorter one runs up a side valley. The solution to reaching up the steep mountain sides has been cable cars. Medellin is the only city in the world where cable cars are an integral part of a metro system. There are two cable car lines which are included in the standard metro fare (about 75 cents US). For an additional fare, a recently opened extension to one of the cable lines goes up over the mountain, several kilometers over the pine forest, to a station in a large eco park with hiking and camping. (Just one more reason why Medellin has climbed to the top of the list of places I want to retire in!)
Looking down from the Santo Domingo Metrocable station,
next to the Parque España Library Park.
There are two more Metrocable stations and
then the line terminates at the
Metro train station in the valley below.
The new Arvi line leaves the Santo Domingo station and goes up over the mountain.
The line continues over the forest for several kilometers.
