Hotel Rio Claro
On Sunday we journeyed three hours east of Medellin to the Rio Claro Nature Refuge, which is about 40 km west of the city of Puerto Truinfo. We stayed there on March 14 and 15 (Sunday/Monday). The hotel is a complex of 24 small cabins just off the highway. This is a rural area in the hot humid lowlands of the Magdalena River Valley.
The Hotel is part of a large private nature reserve with lots of areas to swim and hike in, zip lines across the river, guided tours of a cave, etc. Unfortunately, Rebecca came down with some food poisoning just as we arrived on Sunday afternoon. She spent Sunday evening being sick and Monday laying around recovering. So, we actualy never went into the park itself. We did get to visit Pablo Escobar's old estate on Tuesday prior to returning to Medellin.
We stayed here in cabin number nine. This was two bedrooms and a small bathroom. Rio Claro cost about US fifty dollars per person per day, which includes three meals.
